Classmates

Spitzer resigned today. I was writing the Record's article for tomorrow's issue and what struck me is how many people are HLS grads. Spitzer's '84 ,and so is his wife. On TV, reporter Jeff Toobin's saying Spitzer was a clean guy, and he's '86. Today Sen. Schumer's giving his statement, and he's '74. Spitzer's friends with our dean, who's not only Princeton '81 like him, she's also '86. And so on.

My classmates are going to be very powerful people. Politicians, attorneys general, talking heads, writers, millionaires. It's a weird thing, and it makes you guard your facebooks verrry carefully. Some of them will also probably go down in flames. Depressing. I hope we get a different reputation, as lawyers who bust bad guys and demand human rights; the ones who resigned because their superiors were screwing the country, not the ones doing the...screwing. Yeah.

I remember having this thought at orientation, but in kind of a joking way, like, haha, more than one of these prepsters are going to end up U.S. Senators! No, really. I wonder who I'll be seeing on the news first, and I hope it's something good.

It's amazing how smart people still do so many unwise things during their careers. Being a HLS grad is probably a tough reputation to carry out!

As a New York State employee, I spent this morning attending our mandatory annual Sexual Harassment Prevention training. At the end of the class we each received a Certificate of Achievement from Client #9. I wonder what it's worth on ebay. No signature, so probably not much.
