It was...great. Surprisingly great.

Thanks for your encouragement and Metro advice. I made every train and was early to both DOJ interviews. The EOIR one was a breeze. Just me and an assistant chief immigration judge talking shop. The OIL one was completely the opposite of what I expected: friendly and loose, with every one of my questions and concerns taken totally seriously. Afterward, I crossed the street to the Smithsonian and hung out with some dinosaurs, stunned the day had gone so well. It's hard not to be in a good mood when you're with a diplodocus.

Before I entered Main Justice, I had about 30 minutes to kill, so I slipped into the National Archives and stared at the Constitution and Bill of Rights for a while - you know, the real ones. It was a good moment. Forty minutes later, I was sitting in a chair while a smiley, sincere woman told me I was awesome and assured me that if I came to work for them, within two months I would be in front of a federal appeals court as the voice of the United States of America.

It's a lot to deal with.

I'm grateful. Everything I have chosen in law school feels like it's paying off. I won't know where I'm heading until Thanksgiving at the earliest, but after today, I know it'll be good.

Hooray! No matter what you decide, I'm sure it'll be great. (And no matter what you decide, it's not forever either!)

Eventhough we have never met in person, let me say that I am sincerely glad your day went so well. It's always good to see someone have a good interaction with the government. And it's awesome that you have such great options.

YAY! Glad to hear the day went so well.

Are there, like (very California), a lot of people applying for the job? I imagine in a very PC way, no one mentioned the "bulge".

For the clerkships, there are a lot of people applying, but there are a lot of jobs, so I feel pretty good about my prospects there, we just have to see if they offer me one of my top choices geographically (in which case I'll go) or if they want me to go work at the immigration court in Dallas or Detroit (in which case I won't.)

For the litigation job, I'm guessing they interviewed a dozen or two people, and they can hire 5 for sure, but probably more this year, as the woman told me. So my feeling now is, I'd be surprised if I didn't get an offer from one or the other, and if for some reason that happens, the fellowship apps are still out there, so I'm not doomed.

Is the next step typically a second interview, or a job offer?

Yippee!! Hope everything goes the best way possible for you.

This is it - I'll hear about offers around Thanksgiving. And to Mom, yup, no one mentioned the bulge :) I actually think the judge at the first interview didn't notice, which I thought would be impossible!

That's so freaking awesome.

I'm so happy it went well for you! I think you'd make an excellent voice of the United States.

Congrats Dre! Good luck!

Way to go! This is exciting.
